I told Pharrell that N.E.R.D’s “In Search Of…” changed how I hear music, because it did. Last night was magical to say the absolute least. It was only for those deep rooted in music, those that breathe notes & eat tunes. Night started with Biz Markie walking back & forth on stage giving daps to numerous pioneers while Natasha Diggs sets the mood with her deep 45 collection. See more pix & read the rest of the recap after the jump.

Operator EMZ then went on & rocked for a while before they got the special guests on. Breakbeat Lou ripped the stage with his rare 45’s. His set had commentary from Large Professor capturing the crowd every transition between records. Lou’s set went into a set from Super Lover Cee & Casanova Rud, they ran through a couple joints including fan-favorite “Do The James” (Happy Born Day to the Undercover Brother!).

At the end of the set, they dropped down the Mobile Mondays banner to reveal Biz Markie ready to throw down on the SL700’s. Biz just dropped banger after banger not letting most tracks play longer than 15 seconds providing comedic animated gestures every 12 records or so. After about a hour and a half, Natasha Diggs hopped back on the 1’s & 2’s and proved she deserved to share the stage with the pioneers that were there.

As the crowd trickled down slowly but surely, Just Blaze closed out the show with a ill deep house 45 set displaying some of the cleanest mixes all night. At this point, I chopped it up with LP who ended up buying me a drink, love is love. Outside, I met up with Grandmaster Caz, Breakbeat Lou & Biz but other’s in attendance include Q-Tip, Adrian Younge, Rosenberg, DJ Spinna, DJ Scratch & many many more. To end a perfect night, Biz stuck to the 45 theme by driving off in a Mini Cooper screaming “Elvis has left the building!”
